Input: A set of keys which is pressed down
Behavior: The keys send a corresponding numerical value to the software to produce a musical note
Output: A musical tone
Function: The keyboard is designed to bring a familiar music input system to the digital process of midi creating tones through numerical assignments. The notes can be modified by synthesizers and can be altered in many other ways, such of by using other midi input devices or through the computer itself. People choose to use a keyboard because it allows them to transfer their instrumental knowledge to the device, which has a shape they’re familiar with.
Reversal of System: GHOST Midi Keyboard
Input: Midi notes
Behavior: Midi notes send a corresponding numerical value to a keyboard, which assigns the notes to each key based on the numerical assignment.
Output: Keys are pressed down independently
Function: As a curiosity, this keyboard takes midi notes or midi songs as input, and pushes the corresponding notes down on the keyboard. It looks like a ghost is playing the song. To enhance the effect, perhaps the keys can glow. People could also train themselves to play the songs if they try to follow the keyboard.
