For my project, I chose to make a sensor that works with a guitar. As shown in the diagram, one end of the sensor is attached to the bridge of an electric guitar, and the other end is attached to a quarter, used as a makeshift metal guitar pick. The sensor turns on whenever the pick strikes one of the guitar’s strings.

This sensor works because the guitar’s bridge is made of metal, and is connected to all the guitar’s strings, which are also made of metal. When the quarter comes in contact with a string, electricity can flow through the quarter, string, and bridge, completing the circuit.
The sensor could be used in guitar performance. It could be used to activate an effects pedal or trigger a digital instrument, adding another dimension to the music. The sensor could also be used to trigger a light show or some other performance element, synchronizing it to the music by activating whenever a note is played.
