As Vice President, Executive Producer for Interactive Projects, Joe Garlington is responsible for the development of all interactive attractions for Disney theme parks around the world. Most recently, Joe was the executive producer for Turtle Talk with Crush, a brand new interactive experience that debuted at Epcot at Walt Disney World in 2004 and at Disney’s California Adventure at the Disneyland Resort in 2005, and features the totally cool turtle from Finding Nemo, a Walt Disney presentation of a Pixar film.
Joe began his career at Walt Disney Imagineering in the early 1980s working on several projects for Epcot, including Spaceship Earth and a prototype for a proposed “arcade of the future.” He left Imagineering a few years later to start his own company, Art & Technology, Inc., an exhibit design and production company specializing in media for exhibits and attractions in museums, zoos and amusement parks. Originally a one-man operation, Art & Technology grew to become an award-winning, multi-million dollar company with 50 employees.
Joe sold his interest in Art & Technology and returned to WDI in 1990. Since then, he has overseen the creation and development of such attractions as CyberSpace Mountain, Virtual Jungle Cruise, Ride the Comix and Pirates of the Caribbean: Battle for Buccaneer Gold for DisneyQuest, an indoor interactive theme park that debuted in 1998 at Walt Disney World. He has also worked on projects for Epcot and Disney’s California Adventure.
Joe received a bachelor of fine arts degree from the University of Utah, and a master of fine arts from California Institute of the Arts. Prior to his involvement in theme park and exhibit design, Garlington worked in the film industry on such movies as “Star Trek—The Motion Picture,” “Caddyshack,” “Blade Runner,” “Firefox,” “The Natural” and numerous television commercials.
