
Artist, designer and new media scholar Andreas Kratky will present a talk titled “The Poetics of the Database” for the Digital Studies Symposium on Monday, September 12, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. in SCA 112. Kratky’s award-winning work has been exhibited internationally, and includes the interactive installation and DVD “Bleeding Through – Layers of Los Angeles 1920-1986,” the algorithmic cinema system “Soft Cinema,” and the interactive installations “The Imaginary Twentieth Century” and “Venture to the Interior.” Kratky has contributed to numerous research efforts, working with ZKM | Center for Art and Media in Karlsruhe, Germany, where he was the head of the Multimedia Studio, the Labyrinth Project at USC, and with Anarchive at the University of Paris, where he designed an interactive DVD in collaboration with theorist and video artist Thierry Kuntzel. The talk is free and open to the public.
