Accomplished
- * Talked to Asher about fixing the jitter issue – mostly fixed, but created some new problems, so need his help to debug
- * Added damage functionality to the fins, “fleeing,” and other territory battle specifics, so territorial battles can now be won and lost
- * Implemented a “loser’s circle” area for those who lose territory battles
- * Arranged to meet with my two composers! Hurrah! Will see them next Tuesday to get the ball rolling.
Next Steps
- * Implement a way for territorial critters to move from territory to loser’s circle (write a pathing AI that can switch between the wanderer type and the pather type) and back again
- * Debug the crawl issues with Asher
- * Implement a global system of seeing whether someone “controls” a territory
- * Create node paths for the defensive creatures from their nests to the food locations under the ribbonfish territories
- * Create blue textures for “foreign” defensive creatures
- * Figure out a third goal for the ribbonfish
- * Find a sound designer
“Explore” Project: Basic Overview
Explore is a project about “becoming” something else in the way that only games let us do. In this project I am investigating the power of the first-person perspective in games to give a player a sense of “self” or “character.” The game takes place on an alien planet, and allows the player to take control of a series of animals in the alien ecosystem one by one. The game will use sensory data, movement ability, and interactions with other in-game agents to give the player clues about the character he or she inhabits. Once the player manages to master living as that creature, understanding its nature and completing its goals, another animal unlocks and the player sees through a new set of eyes.
Team
At the moment my team consists of the following individuals: myself, 3D artist Lucas Peterson, and as of today, composers Brent Hengeveld and Giuseppe Vasapolli. Asher Vollmer is also kindly acting as a programming consultant for me whenever I have issues with Unity (which is often). Hopefully by next week or so I should also have a sound designer. Additionally I am looking for possibly a few more 3D artists, an animator or two, and maybe an engineer if someone is familiar with Unity and really wants to work on the project. I am also somewhat interested in finding a producer if anyone wants to help me deal with the everyday problems of finding the previous set of individuals.
