Birthday Disaster |

All those birthday candles... after a while they start to be a fire hazard. Watch out! We altered the birthday cake so that Sims have a chance of leaning in a little too close when blowing out the candles and find that their hair is paying the consequences. The older the Sim is, the more candles on the cake, and the greater the risk of fire. Since it's such a rare event (and so ludicrously tragic), we thought we'd add a bit of a reward for anyone unlucky enough to die from it: a special, cake-obsessed ghost. The cake itself is the starting point: When a sim goes to blow out the candles, it performs a check on sim age, and decides whether they're going to go up. When it happens, the Sim does an animation ("What smells like burning hair?") and after a moment, their head sets on fire. They panic, jump around and scream. Fortunately, it's not absolutely fatal: if another Sim has the presence of mind to extinguish, then it's just a story to be passed around at birthdays for years. If, however, a Sim dies of birthday fire, they get assigned (by the Reaper object) a newly created death type: Death by Cake. This data is passed on by Grimm to the urnstone. When the Urnstone triggers a ghost, it assigns the ghost's color and character based in part on type of death. Our special death has special characteristics: A charred-red ghost carrying a slice of cake, whose presence is marked by constant explosions of confetti. |
