The Audio Expression Final Project Presentations were amazing!!! We had a couple of audio directors from Microsoft Game Studios–Central Media Skype in and view and give feedback on the students’ final projects. It was a great success and truly amazing. Plus, a wonderful experience for the students to get feedback from industry folks.
The audio directors were more than extremely impressed by the projects and commented that the class was doing very ”out-of-the-box” and innovative thinking and experimentation.
What a very successful day! The students have come a long way audio-wiise. I am SO proud of them!

Students in the CTIN 499 Audio Expression class will be presenting their final projects tomorrow (Tuesday) at 1pm in RZC 122. Please join us if you can. The projects promise to be amazing and innovative — all with the focus on audio!
We may also have a member of the Microsoft Games Audio Team skyping in to view and give feedback on the projects. Very exciting!
The theme of the final project is ”Think Outside of the Box” and how to accomplish that with artistic expression through audio. Part of the assignment is to interpret what that means to the student personally. Meaning, the project should be something that speaks to the student and their interests and focus, but the point is to be creative and to explore new territory. This can take many forms: an audio experience, an audio tour, an experiment, an art installation. They can explore topics like ambiguity, image and sound, sound and narrative, sound and perception, the physiological and psychological responses to sound, sound and culture, etc. All projects are to be accompanied by a thesis-like paper that details out the student’s project, including a description of their concept, process, paths taken, analysis, thoughts, what went right/what went wrong, conclusions, any plans to extend the project/details on next phases, etc.

I just finished some changes to Spacewalk, a networked multiplayer game where you play as astronauts piloting EMUs to explore the exterior of the International Space Station. I developed the game over the course of five days as a prototype for thesis prep (CTIN-542/548). It now supports the Oculus Rift, which alters the experience dramatically. Here is an [...] -

Introduction Extending guest experience beyond the gates of a traditional theme park, and essentially, into guests’ homes, is already happening — through online presence, social networking and other strategic technologies. Traditionally the guest experience began at the park turnstiles, but that model is changing. Now the strategy is about circular flow that begins when the guest [...]
