bill viola at the getty
Will, Mike and I went to see the Bill Viola exhibition at the Getty today. Great pieces and loads of inspiration and something everyone should check out. It runs until April 27 and is free ($5 to park). You really have no excuse/reason to check this out before it leaves. For more on my thoughts about the show, check my posting.

I, too, was at the exhibit last night. But while you're there, don't miss another exhibit in the WEST PAVILLION.
The Surrealist Muse: Lee Miller, Roland Penrose, and Man Ray. The exhibit shows their lives, work and relationships highly intertwined (an "inter" word). Of particular note is a photograph that, apparently, Man Ray took of Lee Miller but discarded. Lee Miller, a wonderful photographer in her own right, rescued the negative from the trash, printed it and put her name on it. Man Ray then based a painting on it. They are hung next to each other.
Penrose and Miller traveled around the world and there are several photos, paintings and one book documenting their travels.
This show effectively addresses themes of relationship and identity as they run through these three artist's work.

Tripp, that link of yours includes an extra http:// in it. Just so you know. The Bill Viola was quite interesting as well as emotional. As an actor I was quite drawn to it, yet sometimes put off by some of the melodrama. More thoughts at my corner of the universe...
