Programming Study Group
Some of the IM and Animation students have started a Study Group for Beginning Programmers. The group meets weekly on Wednesdays 9 - 11 AM (yeap, a pretty rotten time slot) at the "Penthouse" (that's the room full of Pentiums in the Lucas basement, next to the room with the Pencil Tester and the Lightboxes). So far, Todd and Tatsu have taught the rest of us some Unix OS, Mel Scripting (Maya) and Processing. It is an open environment designed to introduce beginners to a range of languages/environments and where "no one is to be left behind". Come by if you're interested in learning, instructing or in helping out in any other way!

we should move this to our lab in the future to avoid this terrible time slot. I'd like to come and help out with whatever, but it's just not feasible for me to fight traffic and come down to campus at 9 on Wednesday, when I really don't have any other reason to be on campus that day.

yes, i agree that in the near future we should meet in our IM lab. however, for now, the room and the computers were made available to us by the anim dept - and since the anim students are equally interested in this study group (which is a great asset to us, imo) - we're at the penthouse on wed mornings. i also hope this group expands to cover other material, such as max/msp/jitter/softVNS.

unfortunately, a bunch of us also have 519 wed mornings, or else i know you would have a lot of us first years there. :-(

Next term we were discussing a study group from 2-3 on Wednesdays. Would you be interested in joining us and expanding to Wednesdays from 1-3 PM?

yes definitely. the wednesday morning time slot should change next term to whatever fits best for the most people.
