im sure most of you have seen it before, but it got a nice review/slashdotting the other day: the world-wide media exchange project from microsoft.

this syncs up with a lot of the talks ive been having, esp with kurt. but frankly, this project just doesnt do much for me. in fact, i find it less interesting than a moblog. and even those i have issues with. theres very little context and adding a map doesnt add context when you arent familar with the area. it becomes just a dot on a map.
and with that, heres an interview with robert scoble from ms talking about the future of windows searching. also bad news - longhorn will allow for better searching and more metadata - great. but that metadata is going to be hand entered by you, using terms and phrases you flag. um...isnt that basically what you could be doing now with folders? hardly groundbreaking stuff here guys. the key is to make things transparent to the user, not require more data entry. is there a reason things like cddb/freedb exist? yes.
anyone care to fight about it?
