I felt like this article was missing the obvious connection to the Hollywood film industry - there is more interest in making good money than quality products, resulting in more sequels and tie-ins.
I feel like after the GDC, I don't feel like an "aging demographic" is the cause of this drop in new titles. There are plenty of independent teams working on innovative game play. It seems like the cause of it all lies in what producers are interested in, not what audiences want to play.
