AmbieSense

With the AmbieSense system we have started a completely new interaction paradigm for mobile persons! The intelligent and wireless context tags lets everybody tag their surroundings and situations. The result is ambient, personalised and context-sensitive access to info systems of the future.

This system sounds incredible, and is very similar to systems Leonard proposed a few times last year. It does seem rather doable in the near future. What is going to be interesting is when this tech gets to the point when we have service provider wars. Different networks of information will be available to you based upon your subscription(s). What is really great about the AmbieSense system is customization and filtering of data based upon your preferences and interests. I wonder if they have thought of using trust networks, like Leonard proposed, to filter the data?

The possibilities for this kind of system are promising. I wonder about the various kinds of "short-cuts" to deploying a technology similar to this. Recently, for my WiFiKu project, I've been auditing WiFi APs in various neighborhoods around Manhattan. There are zillions of WiFi APs - mostly personal units in people's homes - embedding the "tag" technology in APs - which could be software - might make be a variation to deploying the tag hardware that mounts to physical structures.
I'm also eager to see proposals for how this kind of technology might be used that goes beyond helping someone find a place to grab a sandwich. It's painful to hear these same sort of applications ideas over and over again..
