Polar Express in IMAX 3D

The Polar Express: An IMAX 3D Experience is the first full-length feature ever converted into IMAX 3D. Experience the magic beginning November in select IMAX, IMAX Dome and IMAX 3D Theatres on screens up to eight stories tall with 12,000 watts of digital surround sound.
IMAX - Polar Express 3D
More about the stereo conversion here:
While the 35mm version in most theatres is restricted to the two-dimensional data, IMAX took the extra info and compiled it into their DMR process to produce probably the best 3D you've ever seen. Say goodbye to clunky liquid crystal glasses that give you a headache; the new 3D glasses are lightweight and filter the dual-projected left and right images into the proper eyes to sell the 3D effect to your brain. Murray tells us that a little tweaking had to be one here and there, like adding extra layers of steam and snowflakes to really take advantage of their 3D potential, before printing it on two giant 15/70mm reels of film. They also took the 2D limitation of the frame, whereby a character's figure may actually be cut out of the shot in a close-up, and used the extra data to construct the rest of their body in the third dimension. So now someone's head pops out of the picture rather than being lopped off.

Doesn't the California ScienCenter near USC have a 3D-IMAX facility? FIELD TRIP

This is a far more important event in the advance
of cinema presentation than may be obvious. First
no other feature length film has EVER been shown
in IMAX STEREOSCOPIC 3D. This is a full 96 minutes long. Recently, Disney released "Spy Kids
3D" as a great box office hit using a fairly crude
stereo technology. The IMAX polarized method is
better. True color, stunning detail. The world
has never seen a "fictional story, full length"
in big format 3D ever! Kids will love this, even if the story should turn out to be silly by
adult standards. If the film does well in 3D play
dates, it will wake up the executives at Pixar,
Dreamworks, Disney et al. that films with animation of CGI process effects will play far better in 3D. It wouild be easy to equip. one
non-IMAX special 35mm modified projector or 65mm
projector in each major theater complex for about
10% of the cost of a huge IMAX installation.
The film would pull down two frames of 35mm
at a time, giving the added detail and light.
No big deal! A brighter metalic coated screen and
you've got 21st century 3D. Please try to see this film in the 3D theaters if at all possible.
If you like what you see, go on line a tell the world! This will also lead to eventual HDTV 3D
if the public shows serious acceptance. Film opens
November 10th. This is your chance to change media
for the future.I've heard from insiders that IMAX
version will knock everybody's socks off...Enjoy!
