IM Forum Speaker for 11/10/04: Mark Bolas
This week's speaker will be Mark Bolas, Visting Associate Professor, Interactive Media Division, USC School of Cinema-Television. The presentation will consist of a quick and broad overview of projects and papers Mark has helped to create. Depending on how it goes, Mark is hoping to give an overview of topics, and then have the students decide on the direction of the presentation. Here is a rough outline to allow the students to get up to speed on the topics: View image

I beleive what Mark's doing will eventually be a helpful device for game guys to create their aesthetics. Form always speaks louder than content. And that's how media differentiate the tastes of traditional cinema, VR(3D) and other interactive media(including video game) from each other. Some wouldn't be ready to any new form, and this happens. It could be understood in the historical POV--just as Perry metioned then--it's just the same with what had been happening when cinema was invented as a recording machine over 100 years ago.
I think it's the time for we guys to review Walter Benjamin's piece again and situate our concerns by: The Work of Art in the Age of Electronical Interactivity.
