The month the blog died
TypeKey authentication has killed the blog. Spam is better than silence.

I don't think this would be as big of a problem if people just created accounts and we all spent 10 or so minutes setting up our blog.
I mean, for me, the spam killed the commenting, because we were getting so innudated I couldn't keep up, and nobody, including tripp, was deleting their spam quickly enough for me to want to deal with reading or making any comments.
So I'm all for the registration, and aside from the couple people who haven't gotten their sites up and working with typekey, I haven't had too big of a problem with it, but that's apparently just me.

I certainly understand the frustration. Typekey doesn't remember you on a computer once you've logged in, and it decreases the fluidity of the comment flow. But I do, just barely, think it's the best solution. People can open up their individual blogs for comments from anyone, but I'd like to see us get together and get people's blogs working with typekey before we just go back to inundating ourselves with blam, and certainly not repeat a drastic change like this without formal notice (mass e-mail). Oh, and bitch en mass to the creators of Typekey, cause frankly, they suck.

Got to Configuration>Preferences>Comment Configuration.
This panel sort of confuses me because it seems like different settings contradict one another, but some combination of clicks should get rid of it/mess it up more.

One thing I'd like to know is how to format the sign in text to make it more apparent to persons who are not signed in.

Go to your blog main menu and go to: Configuration>Preferences>Comment Configuration. Here you can turn off Type Key, and make any other appropriate changes...don't really know what exactly to change.

I have been reading the blog from before the typekey, and I have to say that it is worth it to keep it on. down with spam, up with authentication. I guess you are not really worried about third parties like me though, there will always be plenty of us geeks out here that are willing to login to say something stupid.
