Processing at Machine

Today I caught a lecture by Casey Reas at Machine giving a general overview of Processing, the software sketch environment that he co-created with Ben Fry. It was mainly geared towards people new to Processing (and coding) so there wasn't a lot that I hadn't already known about since I've been using it for more than a year now. However, it was a real treat to get to meet Casey, whose work I find to be rather inspiring. I showed him one of the Processing prototypes for Cloud and we talked for a bit about solutions for implementing anaglyph stereo imaging in Processing. As soon as I have a spare moment (3 weeks or so), I think I ought to be able to hack something together.

I got some exciting news too... if everything goes to plan, the first public beta of Processing will be released this Wednesday. I got a sneak peak of some of the new features and it looks like its shaping up quite nicely.

Also, I would highly reccomend checking out {Software} Structures, an essay by Reas that succinctly sugggests Sol LeWitt's Wall Drawings as an antecedent to the sometimes nebulous field of software art. And be sure to thoroughly pick through Reas' archive for some great past work.

sweet -- been waiting for beta forever...

haven't had time to do much hacking for the past months -- looking forward to the 3 week mark, as well...

I liked this part:

The first three statements in LeWitt's 1969 text "Sentences on Conceptual Art" read:

(1) Conceptual Artists are mystics rather than rationalists. They leap to conclusions that logic cannot reach.
(2) Rational judgements repeat rational judgements.
(3) Irrational judgements lead to new experience.

Thanks for the procrastination material!

or as that famous junky put it: "exterminate all rational thought"
