Wii Dance Project
Performed August 7th, 2008
Summer Research in NYC
Funding for this trip made possible by the FLOURISH FOUNDATION,
special special thanks to all the board members!
I participated in a two-week workshop learning the ISADORA software with Troika Ranch and enrolled in a summer course at ITP learning Max/Msp/Jitter with Luke Dubois in the summer of 2008. This performance is using the Isadora software & Osculator.

Working with the Wii Remote...the beginnings of my thesis research.
In the summer of 2008 I traveled to NYC to study two interactive softwares: Isadora and Max/Msp/Jitter. I was curious with the Nintendo Wii Remotes three-axis tracking system and wanted to further explore the boundaries of choreointeractivity, kinetic movement that compiles a choreography using technology.
My research question: how can the body as a three dimensional figure be defined and measured when in movement. The Wii Remote placed at times in my leg pants and at times in my hands is being tracked with various sounds and text visuals.
I learned from this experience that the user/performer becomes the DJ or musician who composes the sounds executed from her body based on how she moves on stage.
From the early stages of my thesis I designed a Wii Remote glove & knee pad rather then holding the Wii Remote when you dance. (your hands need to be free!) This allows the user/performer to be creative with her movement choices/options. For example, if the Wii Remotes is attached to my leg I may have to twist my leg for a sound or visual to be heard or viewed on screen. Mapping movement this way, I have developed various ways to get you, the user to move creatively in my thesis installation.
