Booth Personification - Mechanical Emoticon

I'm continuing to explore various personifications of the Technophiles Anonymous booth character. Above is a "mechanical emoticon" option that could offer a simple and powerful animation technique that may be worth exploring further.

Are you suggesting to build a mechanical emoticon along the lines of the sketch?

Mark, I’m thinking this would be a 2D animated graphic element that appears to be mechanical and/or “built” out of real materials (similar to this graphic). Something like this may also suggest a possible aesthetic treatment for the booth itself - perhaps an artifact from the near future or recent past. I’m intrigued by designs that are dual references to future and past, similar to the produciton designs for “City of Lost Children” by Jean-Pierre Jeunet & Marc Caro.

Ohh, but I so want to feel the the presence a mechanical embodiment would bring.

Yes, a real/physical mechanical emoticon would be very cool. Perhaps I should first test the idea, in an animated iteration, and then evaluate if the concept works with the theme/content.

A couple pieces of foam core and some color prints would save you from the evils that are trapped deep within that electronic menace you call your computer.
