The 11 Worst Trends in Video Games

Here's a "cute" list of the 11 worst trends in video games currently from Gamepro. While I'm not sure how much I agree with the overall structure and ranking of the list, I do feel their pain on no. 1. I really should go ahead and make a similar list for Asia sometime in the future, but I could tell you that no. 1 would parallel on the same as this list....too many damn games with the Romance of Three Kingdoms theme, at least give them decent English voice acting if you bring it over here...or hey, here's a neat suggestion...don't localize the voice! Ooooohhhh....smaaaaarrrtt, didn't think of that one before.

Heh. "Spoiler: The Allies Win"

I'm still on the fence regarding the localize/don't localize argument. In some cases the original (Japanese) voices were kept such as in Megaman X6 after people rightfully complained about abominable voice acting in some earlier games. On the other hand, I can see the justification for localization in anime such as say, Naruto just because it's more accessible to a lower age group. Yeah, video games and anime may not be the best comparison, I know.

Of course it depends on the subject matter. You want to make Naruto accessible to young kids. They probably wouldn't appreciate the Romance of Three Kingdoms though...

All in all, case by case seems the way to go. That and ability to find decent voice actors.

RJ:

Not a bad list. I can think of a top 11 list that would definitely borrow some of those, but I'd throw in things like: "Everything must be 3D" and such.
