Strangest Mario Ripoff...Ever

Apparently in a bid to win the hearts of gamers for the fight against cruelty to animals, PETA has put up this oddly disturbing flash game ripoff of Super Mario Brothers on their Kentucky Fried Cruelty website. It even contains a special Wii-themed cameo. All I have to say is....Nintendo is gonna sue somebody.

Sony's Crazy iPod Killer Website is Ballistic

Sony's trying to hype up some kind of new MP3 player, codenamed "Rolly", that is going to try to go head to head with a particular branch of the iPod family, namely the Nano and Shuffle. Their website launched recently and I cannot make any sense of this besides the neverending scrolling text of marketing keywords. I hope when Sony meant iPod killer, it wasn't like when Killzone was supposed to be a Halo killer. This website is what happens when you smoke crack, kids.

Ninjatown

I have no idea wtf this game is going to be about, but all I can say is "Freaking Badass". The characters are based on a line of designer toys like Uglydolls, and the game itself is strategy based, and will be released on the DS. My money's on the Business Ninja.

Korea and Taiwan Super Knockoff time!

Saw this Korean Street Fighter 2 show knockoff on Kotaku, and it's too badass not to post:

On the same note, Taiwan and Fist of the North Star, Enjoy!

How the Press and Hardcore Players affect Developers

Interesting write-up from Leipzeig on Kotaku on how exactly developers take the press and hardcore gamers into consideration.

Lionhead and the Language of New Games

Another interesting piece from Kotaku's Leipzeig coverage on Petey Molyneux's current design philosophy is. McWhertor sums this one up real good without dancing around the issue like the presentation apparently does.

Level 70 Elite Tauren Chieftan

Live video from Blizzcon I forgot to post up from the Blizzard in-house band, with prominent members such as Samwise Didier and Mike Morhaime. Best song of the night, "I am Murloc".

And here's the Blizzard produced version:

NC Soft Meet and Greet Austin

From their press release, for those of you who will be in the area, NC Soft, the makers of titles such as Lineage II, City of Heroes, and Guild Wars will be holding a fan bash in their home city of Austin at the end of Sept. Not sure if there's still any space left, but you can always try:

The NCsoft® crew will be storming the Austin Texas Dave and Busters on September 22nd for what’s shaping up to be a great Meet-and-Greet party! Registration filled up fast, but those who attend will have the opportunity to chat with members of NCsoft’s various dev teams, and mingle with fellow NCsoft game fans. Be sure to bring your cameras, questions, and appetites. Thanks to all who signed up, and we look forward to seeing you there!

Gender Bending in Online Games

An interesting article from ABC news on perhaps why male and female players decide to play opposing genders, besides the fairly obvious of course. The article focuses more on the role-playing characteristics of MMOs as it talks about avatar gender choices.
