immersive pod

project_scan_thumb.jpg

sketch for an interactive installation inspired by my final project in 534. the tech consists of a capacitor sensor array embedded underneath the surface of the sculpture that can sense changes in capacitance within a field of space around the sensor (sensitivity is dependent on the surface area of the sensor). I'm not yet sure how far out I can get a sensor to detect changes, one idea that Perry suggested was to use a copper Brillo pad as a sensor.

the surrounding pod surface would be translucent and receive rear projected animations. more explanation on the animations and music later...

Rock on; this kicks ass! Finally your pod concept seems feasible to me. This would be an incredible interface. Similar to my project in one regard, it could serve as a platform for the exploration of various expressions. Hmmmm… I just got an idea. I would be willing to give up on my project to collaborate with you to create this. Together maybe it would be more doable. Let me know.

thanks, lets talk in or after class tonight. creating this specific sketch isn't feasible at the moment for me, but maybe in the future. right now I'm focused on getting the sensors to work to a satisfactory level and creating good content. the sculpture will likely be a scaled down version of what is being touched in the sketch, with the projections being handled by the zml projectors.

with the translucent surface, this could lend itself, just like Erin's project, to a performative aspect as well. veeerrryy groovy.
