brad, just got through reading this. I think it sounds like a potentially very cool project. I especially like the way that you explore how to 'ramp up' the social interactions between participants by leading them through different types of experiences. My suggestions on the proposal, and things to consider this summer when doing pre production are: interface -- 1. seems like a really simple interface would allow for optimum interaction between people, as they wouldn't have to struggle with how to play. 2. more specifics on what exactly the games / experiences are. I don't think this is necessary to include in the proposal, since I'm sure what the experience is will change dramatically over time. 3. For this project, it seems like it would be important to define as early on the exact materials you'll need to build the structure, what kind of lighting you'll need, etc. This will help define your space for the thesis show next year, and if you build the space early, you can run user tests and experiment with what types of specific interfaces and experiences will work best to achieve the types of collaboration / social interaction that you're going after.

Brad - I just wanted to add a note (how about "middle C"?) of encouragement, and, of course, a bit of constructive kibbitzing.

I think it'll help you greatly to get a play group started - if you haven't already done that - and play as many games of collaborative social interaction as you can find. If you need more resources, see my "pointless games" list on http://www.deepfun.com/pointless.html Find out which best model the kind of interaction you are looking for and which of those are in deed the most widespread and reliable fun.

Yes. Fun. In deed.
