Passion

This one's not for the faint of heart or the workplace. Parents strongly cautioned.

I never had a dog when I was growing up, but I wouldn't have dropped the controller either. This is the nature of the gaming spirit.

This one's coming via Adam, by the way, and I assume therefore that it's somewhere on Mahalo as well.

Also, someone on the comments wrote that this was "staged". Maybe on the kid's part... the dog is not acting and that's what really matters.

Maybe that last entry was inappropriate.

To whom it may concern,

It has come to my attention that there are some among many who do not see the academic and/or artistic value in certain cinematic works that may or may not have been demonstrably and irrefutably displayed on this viewing space.

Viva La No Classes Anymore

Three days ago I felt sort of like this:

Hush Early Version: Any takers?

Hush_CoverOne.jpg

I alluded last post to a couple of projects I'd completed, that I was almost ready to share with the Universe at Large (aka my mom and whoever else is reading).

The first one of these projects is a game called Hush.

The Eliza Atlas: Floorplan

[UPDATE: I browsed my uploaded images on another computer and they looked TERRIBLE. On Matt's advice, I tried moving them to Flickr and linking to them there. Let me know if you still have trouble viewing them. If the text is illegible at standard resolution, that's understandable, but the shapes at least should be unbroken.]

Well, my Atlas is done for now. No Document just yet... I have fifteen pages on world history, the purpose and form of the ship, and the experiment that I'll refine and put up here at a later time. For the moment I've decided on posting the sexy stuff, the architectural design of the ship. You can view the drawings below, or see the larger drawings and comments in the Cache Flickr set.

I rounded out the architectural sketches with notes (purportedly written for investors) about the working of the Eliza and her various facilities and amenities. If anyone feels up to the task of poking holes in my ship design, from either a left-brained perspective ("you forgot to give them AIR") or a right-brained perspective ("I threw up in my mouth a little when I saw your font choice") I'd love to hear it.

What I Did On My Winter Vacation: Day One

This game.

bloxorz.jpg

It's a perfect distraction-puzzler... like all good head-scratchers, it presents a goal that appears simple but ends up taking you the long way around. Bonus simple-but-elegant points for the sound design.

Thank Laura (who found teh Bloxorz) and Roboman (the Nexus-7 who created it).

Eliza Atlas: Together At Last

"This ship has no windows. It was not built to look out at the stars, to explore unknown reaches of space. The universe in all its vastness is only a technical incovenience, an uncontrolled variable, for the Eliza’s grand introspective experiment.

The Eliza’s inhabitants careen through space without any line of communication back to Earth. When they return, five years of history will have passed, and they will face a planet restored or destroyed. There is no way to know which it will be: they can only complete their small mission… to remember and to recreate."

New Years Resolutions, 2008

I'm staunchly committed to not saying that my resolution is "to blog more" (and technically I just failed). I've spent this break hanging up with old friends, discovering strange board games, getting annoyed at Metroid Prime: Corruption, and finishing a public build of "Hush". So I've restocked my larder with random gaming shit to write about, and you'll get more of all that later. Today is New Years, so on to the obvious!
