Our Hero

Here's my first tease of Spectre stuff... a few pieces of character art from our art director, Mike Rossmassler.

This is our hero, Joseph Wheeler. known to the team as "Specs".

There are a few things I love about Mike's design. Josepth is nearly a silhouette, a shape that allows your imagination some leeway. He's not a complete shadow, however... there are a few salient details picked out in stark white (in a style inspired by Frank Miller's work). First and foremost are his glasses... his eyes are his most pronounced feature, and yet they are shielded from view.

This ties neatly into our character, who doesn't fit the traditional "hero" mode common to platforming video games.

But before you cry "Braid" (a reasonable thing to cry: Braid's hero, Tim, was certainly a piece of prior art that gave us the courage to make a hero with a day job) look at a few other concepts used for Joseph Wheeler.

I'll leave it at that for now. Man, I've got to admit... explaining a game is MUCH more fun (for me, at least) when you don't try to do it all at once.
