Game Development Issues

Everyone's starting to give me a bad time about the blog, but I'll start trying. Not sure where to start, but I found an interesting article on Game Development in ACM Queue that people might find interesting.

Group Love

So, this is one of those entries where I'm not sure to add it to my personal blog or the main one because I want everyone to experience it. Oh well . . . here goes . . .

Typophile is a collective-consciousness reflection of letters and numbers. It's based on the same collective "paddle" exercise at SIGGRAPH years back that Scott showed us in class.

Mini World Map is the same concept, applied to a collective-consciousness perception of the world.

Anyway, enjoy.

Alternate Reality Gaming

So, this is definitely going to be more of a self-reflective, journal- or diary-type entry, but since it's my first on my personal blog (I've put a few on the main blog), and it concerns what I want to do for my thesis, it's fitting. I've just been trying to think lately about what actually interests me in interactive media enough to have me do a thesis on it. I mean, a lot of this stuff is cool, and I find it fascinating, but would I really want to work on it myself?

Then Mark reminded me of Alternate Reality Gaming.

I remember (and contributed to) the original a couple of years ago, the A.I.: Artificial Intelligence tie-in that started it all (side note: check my own IMDB entry). Now with this new one from the world of The Matrix, I realized how excited I get about these, and how I could totally see myself immersed in solving or designing them. It probably ties into how I've almost been more interested in games like Tetris and The Island of Dr. Brain because of their puzzles.

Anyway, need to keep mulling over this concept and seeing if I can form it into some kind of thesis.
