Participatory Design Toolkit for Children

Color Rate-Gyroscope, originally uploaded by jeanbaptisteparis.

Jean-Baptiste (j*b) has been creating some very interesting projects around his dissertation topic — a Participatory Design Toolkit for children that combines art, technology and play. It's quite an exciting and brilliant combination of DIY, novel uses of new materials and just plain old fun. (I'm going to dissect this just by looking at the photo and the brief description, so forgive me if I'm off.) This bit of wearable technology combines an Arduino Mini, a 3-axis accelerometer, and I'm guessing that's a three-color RGB LED. Color detection on the other end combines XYZ acceleration with measurement in the RGB color cube. It uses Processing to detect the motion of the wrist band. (We'll be covering both the Arduino and Processing in workshops this semester!)

I recommend following his blog dispatches and Flickr stream!
