Fall Electives in Interactive Media
Here are some really great electives that you should consider for Fall!!
CTIN 499 Database Cinema with Andreas Kratky
Computer-based interactive technologies have extended the ways we think aout narrative and conceive artworks. The attempt to engage the viewer into an active exchange and the drive towards open and associative structures has roots in cinema and many other fields of cultural production which are developed to a new stage with interactive media.
CTIN 499 Location-Baded Mobile Media: Maps, Games and Stories with Julian Bleecker
A new mode of interaction is emerging. A “mash-up” of geographic information system databases, electronic cartography, wireless networks, global positioning sensors, widespread adoption of net-worked mobile devices anticipate a profound change in interactive computing. Current research on the topics of ubiquitous and pervasive computational and networked systems has begun to reveal ex-citing ways in which humans, their location in space, and the objects surrounding them will interact in ways that go beyond the traditional paradigms of sitting in front of a computer, or even “thumbing” a keypad on a mobile device.
CTAN 502a Stereoscopic Animation and Virtual Reality with Perry Hoberman (this is listed under Animation)
This course is an intensive hands-on initiation into stereoscopic 3D imagemaking, exploring the aesthetic, conceptual and technical issues involved in the design and production of 3D images, animations, and experiences. Stereoscopic (3D) vision is both a basic (and often overlooked) feature of our perceptual experience, as well as a spectacular media technology that can push our view of the image from a mode of exterior contemplation to a sense of total immersion. It is also a key component of virtual reality. In this course, we will cover the basic principles of binocular vision, the history and development of stereoscopic methods and systems, and the various available methods for creating and displaying stereoscopic images. Each week you'll receive a hands-on introduction to another aspect of this amazingly rich field. With the development of new display technologies, interest in stereoscopic imaging is rapidly increasing, and this course is designed to help you take advantage of these exciting advances. Whether you are a filmmaker, animator, game designer or new media artist, this course will make your work "stand out" from the crowd.

Hello –
I am working with a local SoCal interactive startup company that has availability for 2 internship positions.
Our assembled team has all relocated to the area after working in media and the interactive space with leading brands and agencies. The students would me involved in learning the ins and outs of thie entrepreneurial venture that involves raising VC money, partnering with brands (so far we have Rolling Stone and others on tap), evaluating web design, creating media lists, writing content for the web and a variety of other things. The interactive experience is something that I believe would offer an intern a valuable and engaging opportunity to learn and see about this industry.
I was hoping you may be able to circulate this through to your classes? Let me know and I'll shoot you the description.
Best,
Lindsey
