Antonym

Antonym is a game project I did with MFA film production student (now graduated) Jurri Schenck. Jurri was interested in taking his script concept and seeing how it could work as a game. The story is about a boy, Matthew, who is whisked away to the magical land of Antonym. While trying to find a way home Matthew happens upon a little creature, Bloken, who decides to hitch a ride with him in his backpack. Antonym is an eclectic place filled with puzzles and the characters that make them tick. As such, I suggested creating an adventure game. While I was considering creating an adventure game engine from scratch in Flash, I found that this was not possible given the 5 weeks we had to produce this game. So we ended up using Adventure Game Studio which simulates Sierra and Lucasarts-style adventure games. I told Jurri that there's no way we were going to fit the whole story of his film into this game given the small amount of time that we had. So he selected a small piece of the film with which we could work. The game was to have 5 "rooms", each with specific things that the player can do to further the story and come to the intended conclusion. Despite the limited interface that we were able to use, the game came off quite well and it gave Jurri a good sense of how his story could be experienced as a game.
NOTE: This game will only run on a Windows PC. After decompressing antonym.zip, double-click "antonym.exe" to run the game. There is no installation required.
