Fishualization!

Fishualization is a project that three of my classmates and I did at the request of the Long Beach Aquarium of the Pacific. The idea was for children to be able to play along with the fish. One of my classmates had a program that was able to track the movement of fish via camera and generate particles on a screen that would display as the fish moved. While it is impossible to control the fish directly (not to mention possibly inhumane), I came up with the idea for kids to use some form of wand to paint onto the screen with the fish as they moved around. Another classmate came up with the idea of using foot switches (through the clever re-skinning of a DDR pad) so that kids could change particle colors and the types of particles that could be displayed by the fish and kids. The other classmate arranged visits between our group and the main tech wizard at the aquarium, as well as took care of other production activities such as obtain materials and maintain a balance sheet for our budget.
