You're all so beautiful! DIM but beautiful.

About fourteen? One of you keeps slipping into a coma...?

Perhaps in the After photo the girls won't feel like clustering together, far from the camera?

Hah - I noticed the women stuck together in the photo, I hadn't thought about how there were furthest in the corner. Funny, that! We'll see in a few years. Is that enough time for the transgendering process to take hold? If so, we could have one or two more women in the department by then.

What ever you do, DON'T view Justin's shoes on an NTSC monitor; you will permanently throw off your color balance!

Very touching. What a bunch of cuties you all are! Who said geeks aren't sexy. Even the boys are good looking (heh heh). We could post some suggestions but DEAR GOD! Justin: I could forgive the pants but the shoes and that bowtie I saw the other day have to go. Then the cuties may actually flock to you and you could spend some quality time WITH them instead of fantasizing about them and wasting your quality time as a grad student.

no! i love justin's bowtie look. honestly, i think it's really hip, in that context. and much preferable to certain other dude uniforms!

Justin's bowtie 1, Marientina 0

dear girl,
what "context" are you qualifying the hipness of justin's bowtie in? and would it be hip in any other?
Posted by: Noha at October 19, 2004 8:17 PM
hey there noha,
as requested, girl on bowties:
the Good
(on justin) the bowtie is a oversized, and kinda sloppy (in a good way!). the entire suit, tie included, has a bit of the English school-boy look. also, justin wears his hair slightly disheveled, which helps one pull off a bowtie!
BAD
as for when the bowtie would be bad... i guess walking down the street sometimes, i see people who try an "old man" look (see also jazz, beat, writers, blues musicians, pipes). often accompanied by tweed and corduroy. both fine fabrics! but when it's really ill-fitting, it looks like a costume, like the clothes are wearing you, not the other way around. i associate bowties with the boldest of these practitioners. often college freshman.
then there's the pompous application of the bowtie, which it seems like you never see in real life. but i'm on the west coast, so maybe i'm sheltered from that. i have seen real people (not actors) on tv with this look. it exists somewhere.
summary:
i think mgotsis is right in general to fear bowties. but justin's overall personal style pulls it off!
signed,
girl (who dresses like a slob, actually)

Hey, how do we know that "girl" is not simply Justin praising himself? (Hey, not criticizing, I'd probably do it too!)
Posted by: Mikey at October 19, 2004 9:07 PM
Well I could praise myself, put on my bowtie, and touch myself too - perhaps that would be a fulfilling experience! Regardless, I think there's a lot of beauties in this group - next photo we'll arrange better lighting and we'll have a full-on fashion showdown.

Please, please take a picture of option number one!
