milestone - hallways, rounded room
I'm exploring 3D game engines as a potential platform for my MFA thesis. Currently, I'm working with Half Life 2's Source Engine.
In the week I've had it, I set myself some goals; build a room, build a room with a hallway, build multiple rooms with multiple hallways, build a round room.
So at Aaron's urging, I'm posting these screenshots, to celebrate a milestone I hit tonight - rooms, hallways, leading to a rounded room.
I've been impressed by how easy the tool was to learn (with help from these excellent tutorials), and how graphically good the results look in spite of my lack of skill.

That's the beauty of modding a game engine, not to mention one as gorgeous as HalfLife 2. All you need are idea's, and aptitiude within the tool set, the art is already there and labored over!
Sounds like great fun! Congrats, I'm sure with you smarts and dedication you will be able to create something great.
Best of luck.

All rooms look better when you point high-powered crossbows at them.
I seem to remember you used to play with the level-creation tools for Marathon... if I'm not hallucinating that, can you compare them a bit?
