CH wk11

Within the land of the Cultural Hurricane Interactive Museum there would be two different areas: 1) A market for exchanging on the basis of the actual spiral structure, around the different architectonic structures. 2) The actual tornado structure, which will serve for showing the cultural artifacts exhibition.

The economy suggested at these two spaces will be of exchange. It will be suggested to show the different cultural items on the different level of the structure. For instance, a specific food recipe place at the level 2 of food / kitchen utensils. On the basis the creators could talk with the visitors to talked about the way an specific cultural item was modeled, its function, its origin, its ingredients, etc; they could exchange cultural items between them so they can use in their own lands or in another places of the Second Life world.

The communication would be through chat and through showing the cultural items within the spiral structure. There would be a blackboard on the basis where people could write or draw the hot topics related with the Cultural Hurricane interactive museum: new rules for organizing the showing levels, ways of building some kind of cultural artifacts, special exhibitions of some type of cultural items, suggested cultural items to create, etc.

The habitants of this mini-world will identify the space when they will be near it because the spiral structure formed with cultural items surrounding different colored bar levels (see previous w10 picture), which probably will have a floating globe on the top.

Each cultural item provided at the Cultural Hurricane Museum will have an object note that will allow the people to teletransport to the CHM land if they want to visit or get a copy of that object. Moreover, different advertisement posters will be set up on different strategic an public areas. For instance within the land of the participants, within the Creative Common lands, etc.

The Cultural Hurricane Museum world space would be collaboratively built under the simple but strong belief of using the cultural diversity and its different expression to understand universal human beings necessities. For instance: the question of the architectonic structures to develop different activities like living, learning or socializing; the way different cultures face the necessity of eating using the different ingredients that exits in their habitats, the way they dress for different occasions and based on the temperature of the environment the live, the different artistic expression they use to communicate their culture, life style and believe system.

Dioramas & Physics: What does it feel like to be there? How do things move, work?
The visitor would feel free to create as well as to experiment any cultural item with freedom. Once per week it will be possible to let the people to reorganize the museum categories so they could become the exhibition designers of the interactive museum. While visiting the museum you would feel like within a spiral labyrinth of cultural items. I want it to be like the sensation a child has when he visit for the first time an attic full of mysterious and different objects.

The cultural items would be floating around. However, they will be floating in different heights or levels, see previous weeks notes, based on the functionality they have: structure, food, clothing, miscellaneous. I want the visitors to be able of making the cultural items to float and reorganize them recreating the sensation the children experienced in the scene “A spoonful of sugar” of the Mary Poppins. See http://youtube.com/watch?v=-1LfNxFoh9M&mode=related&search (in English but with low quality video) or http://youtube.com/watch?v=Mn_xSqRqVnQ (in French but better quality) However, some of the objects could perform a small animation when touched showing their functionality or an unexpected action, like a Jack in the box toy. In terms of the SL language, the objects will be phantoms so they would be transparent and without physics in terms of not being affected by the gravity.

The way to get there should be through advertisement panels located strategically around Second World. Those panel will let yor avatar to teletransport where the would be located. This advertisement board should could be modified by the people who owns the land where it will be and it can show a detail of how and where their cultural artwork is displayed on the CH museum.

One important location to have a link would be on Creative Commons land and in other creative spaces related with art and cultural mixes.

The Cultural Hurricane Experience:

Cultural Hurricane is a virtual interactive museum within Second Life where people can focus in sharing their cultural knowledge through collecting, exchanging and exhibiting their cultural artifacts. It works as an open virtual museum which objective is to build and share different perspectives of the cultures that exits in the real. The participants could own or create these cultural items, based on the three primal forms that are available within the SL construction tools, or could be owned by them. Each cultural item is suggested to include some information, in the form of SL notes, from the culture that represents, its author and its Cultural Artifact Category.

The initial Cultural Artifact Categories are starting from the ground level: 1)Architectural Structures, 2)Food & Kitchen Utensils, 3)Clothes & Wearable Devices as well as 4) Miscellaneous: Your Favorite Cultural Item. This structure will follow the structure of a multi color hurricane or tornado that can guide the vertical visit of the CH museum, following the lines of wind represented through two parallel bars as well as tinted with different colors, representing the different categories. Moreover the visitor will be able of doing a flying visit through the different colorful levels of the museum. The interstitial areas, where a player can find two mixed colors will be populated with cultural items that could be related with both areas.

Cultural Items Owners & Creators as well as visitors would be able of reorganize the their own or the free cultural items in a limited horizontal, following the previous level-categories, but unlimited vertical space being able of visiting the virtual museum by flying or following the hurricane structure.

The main goals would be:
a> To encourage the participants to create cultural items from the real world or even invent their own creating emerging cultures.
b> To let the visitors learn about different cultures while playing with the different cultural artifacts, one of the main characteristic that distinguish human kind from other animals.
c> To let the creators and visitors to propose new categories, vertical sections of the museum, as well as move the cultural items of each section within it, reorganizing freely the museum.
