MAYDAY is coming!

This is as interactive as you kids feel like making an otherwise traditional filmmaking event. And there are game-related prizes, suckers, so there! It's justified that I tell you about it. But here's the skinny.

My company puts this contest on twice a year. It's up to you to organize your own digital filmmaking team, so gather a few friends. Next Saturday the 5th at 10am, all teams gather together where the contest organizers will announce the title of the film. Teams then have exactly 24 hours to create a finished short film using that title. It's crazy. It will make you wish you were dead. But it's also fun.

Two weeks later there's a screening followed by audience-chosen awards. It's wicked fun. Previous titles have been provided by the likes of comicbookdom's Grant Morrison and Lethal Weapon scribe Shane Black. This time around one Melissa Joan Hart will be providing the titles. So it'll be wacky.

And you're heartily encouraged to find film buddies or film unbuddies or whathaveyou and compete all vanilla style. I happen to know there is an award for the film "most deserving of a retro videogame system."

But since this is Interactive Media, I'm offering youse guys Psychic Bunny's version of the X Prize:

I'm challenging a team from this department to enter this thing and cook up something that maybe goes a little beyond the ordinary. Do an Interactive experience in 24 hours. Make it immersive, make it stereoscopic, make it a branching narrative, or whatever your little brains can cook up. To be eligable to be included on the DVD and win the standard prizes, you've got to deliver it on a standard DV tape when it's all done, but if you come up with something genre-smashing, there are video games to be won!

It's also where you need to register your team and get the details about where to meet on the 5th.

This 3D will eat your soul

For all those people who surf the web with 3D glasses handy. I know all of you just keep those puppies next to your monitor.

I'm actually pretty proud of this. Minor Photoshoppery but mostly lots of meticulous care when taking the original image.

Jenny's SLR camera rocks my socks.
