Mobile Brainstorm
First of all, thank you to Will for fixing my blog, and I apologize for the repetitive posts as a result. I guess they got trapped somewhere, and of course I kept trying to repost after the error messages came up, so there you go. Maybe I'll erase them soon.
Just wanted to put out a brainstorm, in response to the subject Kurt mentioned in class today of laptops being a possible mobile device. There are already public WiFi spaces in NYC; Julian mentioned the one in City Hall, and there is also one in Bryant Park. In the summer, HBO sponsors a free summer outdoor movie festival in Bryant Park.
Anyways, putting two and two together, many people bring their laptops to take advantage of the WiFi system as they wait for the film to begin, since typically you have to arrive approx. five hours before hand to get a good spot on the lawn. This venue might be a good place to try out a public game before the film, and maybe you could even get HBO behind it! Well, maybe it doesn't qualify as mobile inheterently, but it could qualify as fun, so I thought I would throw it out there.

good idea. I'm sure there's some precident for this kind of experience (anyone know?). I can't help but be reminded of the electronic theatre at siggraph.

Many (USC excluded) campuses are also WiFi: Columbia/Barnard for one.

USC is *technically* a wifi campus, albeit an embarrassingly poor one. Also one only accessed through a VPN.

peggy - that's a good point, since many colleges also have outdoor school events during the year. maybe one of our sister programs would be interested in testing something out?
brad - i'm also reminded of carnegie melon's program and how they would try stuff before their end of the year show.
