Spielberg to Develop Three Original IPs at EA

Coming soon to a game console near you: a Steven Spielberg video game. The acclaimed film director and producer has agreed to develop three new games under a long-term exclusive deal with video game maker Electronic Arts Inc. The deal to be announced Friday reflects the increasingly intertwined interests of Hollywood and the video game industry.

The deal involves much more than the Hollywood director merely putting his stamp on a game or popping in for quick consultations, said Neil Young, vice president and studio head of EA's Los Angeles studio.

Instead, Spielberg will have an office in EA's studio. He plans to work side-by-side with game developers to create original gaming content beginning with the concept — not a game based on a movie, or vice versa, both of which are common practices nowadays.

Sizzle.....hot as hell. mmmmmhigh budget production.............aaaaaa(insert droolins).

Apparently big Steve-O is an avid game fan. Or at least his childen are. I saw him at E3 digging on the new VU Incredible Hulk game.

I wonder what titles he is going to oversee. I know he's the one who started up the idea for the original Medal of Honor games. Let's hope he moves on from WW2 and gives us some crazy new stories.

Or maybe he can also help supervise a DECENT Indiana Jones Game for Lucas Arts. The last one was Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis which came out, Oh....10 years ago!!!

WE should demand some our students be part.

:)

yea, us.

"Having watched the game industry grow from a niche into a major creative force in entertainment, I have a great deal of respect for EA's understanding of the interactive format," said Spielberg.

"No one is more at the centre of understanding gameplay and great storytelling than Steven Spielberg," the head of EA's LA studios, Neil Young, told the BBC News website.

"You can expect it to be something that appeals to a broad audience," he said.

EA will own the intellectual properties on the games and will develop, publish and distribute them worldwide.

Spielberg's DreamWorks had produced games for a time under its DreamWorks Interactive division, but EA bought it in 2000.

Oh come on, Paul. Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb was a great game, and it came out only 2 years ago!
