Even My Job is In Trouble

http://robotic.media.mit.edu/projects/anemone.html

I don't think the outlet for this technology is being explored properly in this particular project, but this seems to be a recurring interest in robotics (if my memory of Disney's Hall of Presidents is right): robotic performers. And what exactly *is* the interesting thing about it? Here I see it more clearly than in the Hall of Presidents show - you can have crazy aliens on stage! It seems like it would have to be all or nothing, though - you wouldn't want a human performer to come on stage, because it would ruin the illusion of the robotic performers.

Personally, I think this would complement my research on working with children with limited mobility in creating MOCAP animations - maybe I should look into robotic puppetry as well! Maybe MIT should hire me as an artistic consultant, ahem ahem...

TK3

I liked it. Okay? I might be the only person in IM who fell into the target audience for TK3, but I thought it was pretty cool. And it gave me SO many ideas for projects that I can actually implement *by myself*. I think it is an excellent program for artists like myself to use to get content out there in a way that a)demonstrates our seriousness and committment to the project and b)clearly communicates a concept piece to a group of programmers who could collaborate with us.

Projects I would use TK3 for:
A family photo album that could compile text, audio, video, and pictures, as well as link to more information about the time period that family member was living in.

Script notations! I think this program is a dramaturg's dream! You could make notes, add blocking, camera angles, attach your storyboard(I'm combining theatre and film terms here), as well as attach inspirational images, sounds, other texts, and research you've done. And all this in one package that you could easily carry around and show to your collaborators.

And today was the first time I seriously looked at digital books as a possibility in my future. Because I could "dogear", higlight, and make notes, it seemed much more a possibility for me. Because those are the very things I enjoy doing to my books that I can't do when I'm reading them online.

happy new year; one semester down, five more to go!

Two areas of focus this semester:

1)Continue discovering how I can use performance animation/digital puppetry to create animated features that will be performed by children with disabilities.

*Two resources I discovered over the break relating to this topic -
a. Computer Access in Los Angeles (http://www.cac.org/), which help those with disabilities have more self-fulfillment
b. The 52nd Street Project (http://www.52project.org/) in NYC. There are similar progams dotted around the country, but I've really enjoyed the shows from this group. They've put on some of the best theatre in NYC in the past year, for sure.

2)Augmented reality. As far as interactive entertainment goes, I think this is what most appeals to me as VUP(viewer/user/player). Maybe it's like X-treme gaming, but I'm way more charged to play around when it involves some physical activity, as well as some altering of perception.

I feel (as maybe most of us do) that I'm posting up here mainly to get feed back, so any and all information in relation to these topics is helpful.
