The issue in mind mind at the moment is digital vs. analog... and this has nothing to do with computers.
A feedback system has a sampling rate for the user's input and a sensitivity to variation in that input. So it seems that there are two extremes: 1) identical output based on approximate/identical input. 2) non-identical output based approximate/identical input.
So think about the range of expression and control.
I am much more interested in devices that have "personality" or "character" such as musical instruments or sports equipment. Every violin produces a different sound and every baseball bat has a unique sweet spot which promotes an intimate relationship between the player and the instrument.
Unpredictability can be good and bad depending on the goal of the user/player.
After growing up surrounded by one-to-one relationships with computers, I personally like to be surprised.
