The cardboard tree trunk

Since a towel wrapped around my feet and legs evoked such a sense of stability I thought that extending that stability to the entire torso would enhance the sensation but actually it had the opposite affect. I took a large cardboard box, scored it on the outside and wrapped around myself and a few others. The box wasn't snug so it didn't feel secure (one of my testers even fell over - like a tree falls). Even if it was snug I don't think it would have the same sensation unless our feet were grounded to the middle of the shins - making sure we wouldn't tip. But even then, it might not be necessary at all.

If you can make a platform or ramped 'mount' that basically sinks the person a foot or 2 under ground level you will not only have stability, but conceptual roots (as part of the person will be underground). This will also make the tree structure seem taller (since you will be putting eye level closer to the ground)

After Maya's first post on the subject, I had also ideated about kids having their legs buried to give them a sense of rooted-ness while pretending to be trees. But then, I remembered when my dog and I, when I was a kid, stepped into a mud field and were barely able to move while we sank in. We eventually got out, but the experience was harrowing. Needless to say, I'm not into the idea of burying feet. So, on to trees...

When I was young, some of us kids used to climb trees and, where possible, leap from branch to branch like lemurs (we would sometimes play tag that way). Some trees were good for this, others not. I think, Maya, that you need to decide what kind of tree you're going after (a weeping willow is not an oak). But, well, I also think that interpersonal subjectivity between humans is so weak that trying to suss the feelings of non-human entities is a weird concept.

On the other hand, people at UCI (I think it was they) rigged networked communications between a parrot and a plant. (I'll find the link...if you want.)
