The King of Kong is showing this Thursday at 7 o'clock in Lucas 108. For free, even.
If you haven't seen it yet, I highly recommend you go. As game designers and interactive artists, we often struggle to surface the emotionally compelling parts of our work. The King of Kong is a great reminder about how sometimes our audience finds that part for us, and our work is made all the better for it.
See it if you haven't. It's amazingly inspirational, and your time will not be squandered.

Summary: A middle-school science teacher and a hot sauce mogul vie for the Guinness World Record on the arcade classic, Donkey Kong.
In 1982, LIFE Magazine assembled the worlds greatest gamers for a photo shoot that would become the center spread of their 1982 Year-In-Photos edition. Billy Mitchell, who would later be named the Gamer of the Century, was one of the invitees. In front of the 20 best gamers in the world, Billy scored 874,300 points in Donkey Kong, a record many thought would never be broken.
Little did he know that a 35 year old family man Steve Wiebe would soon challenge him in a cross-country duel to see who could set the high score that would be included in the 2007 Guinness World Records book and become The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters.
Hope to see you there,
Michael
I don't even know how I wound up on this mailing list, but this week, I'm grateful.

This movie teh roxors.
On the real, this a great underdog story- and paints an interesting portrait of the seedy underbelly of competitive arcade playing.
