choreographic dream

Funny how answers can come in your sleep sometimes... After days of horrible nightmares I thankfully can't recall, I had a beatiful dream last night that gave me an almost cinematic choreographic snippet for the intro or conclusion of "Soulmates". I am in a dark room that is surrounded by tall narrow windows that occupy the top half of the walls. There is a chair and and coffee table. Colors are dark brown with orange tones. It is very seventies actually. Maybe it is even the Eames chair I grew up sleeping on (my parents ignorantly threw it out). I am pacing back and forth. Someone is sitting on the chair. I don't know who. From the window closest to me appears John smiling at me. He pauses. I pause. As I take steps to continue pacing he synchronizes with me. If I take one step forward he takes one step back and his face and body move from one tall window slit to the next. (UIC's windows were tall slits on concrete buildings too because they were built during the riots.) I walk and he walks--a waltz separated by a wall, me in the darkness, he, in the light, maintaining eye contact always, my distant guardian as he always was, watching over my every move, smiling reserved, watching.

As a choreography, this is a nice way to start because it sets a pace for 2 plus/minus one and establishes theme. The two people pacing sync and then complexity is added as the person inside grabs the person on the chair to continue the 'waltz'. The person on the outside can temporarily exit or continue watching paused. Lighting a dark square is also a very interesting and possible thing on stage.
