Okay, here are some test vids of my space simulation/recreation. They came out okay I guess, but with a few different tricks (and better lighting), I could probably pull off somthing more interesting. These vids are just test footage, nothing that interesting. In the first one I am playing Quake, the second checking email. I also have longer versions on my camcorder. I think you can really see the potential for an interesting narrative however. If I were to rig it up as a front projection, it might work better. I also need more light on the inside of the case as well as NOT shooting in front of a window. The hardest part about the test shots was to try and match up both the action I was doing with the computer monitors responses. More on this later.
YOU MUST HAVE DIVX TO VIEW!
Here are some pictures of the setup...and of Peggy. Methinks she likes to put her head inside of things!
Intels new slogan, "Peggy Inside"
Before I began this, I knew that I could have just shot the frame of the inside of the comp and composited it over top of me staring at the camera with just a keyboard...instead of the elaborate setup I posted pics of above. However, if I were to do the elaborate setup with front or side projection, I would be able to effectively match the two together, action for action. In retrospect, I think that this sort of footage gives a little more privacy away than does a web cam. The whole focal point thing is very interesting to me in that it displays more subtle actions of the invidual in front of the computer.
