what's up with the skew of the buildings / clouds when the ufo passes? Is that a result of the rendering, or what that intentional?

Will - thats a heat distortion trail, intentionally put in there by me. I don't like it much because it looks too much like the microsoft bubble screen saver.

Jenova - Good to be picky, that's what the industry boys do all the time! The reflection map I forgot about (buildings on the ufo) but the motion blur is most definitely there, just not in coherence with the speed of the craft. We used a little Raytracing and enabled 2d motion blur in Maya for the output. looks good on its own, it's just too fast for the background plate (city).
