Thinking of getting a laptop...remember that's "thinking", not deciding. Any help/opinions/experience on the subject would be grand. Here's the link to the machine I am thinking about...

Remember, it has to be able to run Unreal Tournament 2004 and Maya. I also need it to be fairly light weight and travelable. I'm not happy it comes bundled with xphome, but that's about the best I can do for the affordabililty part. Anyone know anything about the FX5200 go series? It has 128 meg ram, so I'm considering it pretty heavily...
Posted by Mike at October 24, 2004 11:06 PMYeah dude, looks like a decent machine. I definitely won't recommend DELL, they have cheap powerful machines, but design and durability are lacking. Sony is way to expensive, and they only make that sissy Centrino bs. Alienware is out of anyone's price range. Just make sure u check pricegrabber/pricewatch for any better deals - some are $100 cheaper than newEgg.

The new Sony Viao series is also a good choice; check out Julie's laptop when you have a chance.

Check out my laptop sometime. its the same as julie's except its got a radeon 9700 rather than a 9200. it weighs about 4lbs. the screen is amazing. battery life is great. i got it for about 2K in august and new revision came out recently that dropped the price a little.
17" laptops != portable. have you seen doox hobbling around campus with that enormous bag on his shoulder?
