Part 1: Pick 3 objects (You've done this already)
a) Something significant from your childhood, something important to you - a toy, a talisman a momento.
xevoz action figures
b) An inspiration - a quote, a song, a book, a lyric, a piece of art, an experience, a philosopher, a scientist, just ONE.
i picked the book Half-Life 2: Raising the Bar
c) Something you've done or pursued on your own initiative (scholarly or otherwise) that is deeply interesting/satisfying to you.
my work on the night journey
Part 2: Questions (Take some time to do this properly, post it.)
a) Why this item is interesting/meaningful/important to you (or universally)?
xevoz - these toys marry customization, posability, and style in a manner that i have never seen in toys before
half-life 2 - this book is a collection of the concept art and design, a game that i admire greatly for it gameplay and art style
the night journey - again, this game demonstrates a visual style that is find very inspiring
b) What are the issues, concerns, principles, processes or attributes that surround each item?
i think that the common theme amongst all three items is one of style, which is used to accent gameplay in addition to being innovative in and of its own
c) How is each item relevant: socially, technically, politically, phenomenologically?
xevoz are an obscure line of action figures, which are reknowned for their style and innovation. Half-Life 2 is the benchmark for first person shooters, especially
in terms of gameplay and storytelling. the night journey is an innovative game that demonstrates an innovative, artistic approach to videogames.
d) What do you not know about the item, and would like to investigate?
i think that i am most interested in custom content and artistic innovation in all 3 of the objects i chose. I have just begun building customized xevoz parts,
and i have a long history of hl2 experimentation, from custom characters to maps and gameplay styles. I am also interested in investigating the portrayal of
urban spaces in both HL2 and the Night Journey
Part 3) Step Back (Post this as well.)
a) Look at your three items as a whole and see if you can discover similarities (literal or abstract), are there intersections?
I believe that all 3 objects suggest an interest in emphasizing the visual and artistic. it appears i have an interest in the merger of visual style and
how it drives gameplay innovation.
b) Does your analysis suggest an area of interest, or (series of) questions?
I think that this analysis suggests that i am interested in exploring new possibilities in fine art gaming, and in the ability to custimize content on the fly
