Prototype Update: Star D

Just wanted to post about my upcoming less-than-rapid prototype currently named "Star D"

I've wanted to design a game that is played on a star grid for several years. I even tried prototyping it a few summers back with no luck, so I decided to take on the challenge once again... and this time, its personal.

The grid I'm using offers gameplay properties beyond its aesthetic appeal. For example, each tile has two "children" but not every cell has two parents, unless you allow a cell to be parented by a cell in a neighboring star point, at which point the parents aren't necessarily "below" the cells. This also creates problems because there is no intuitive way for the diamond cells to "fall" towards the center without several odd cases.

I tried a variety of mechanics on the star that I think were all too abstract. They mostly turned into tetris/luminies/clickomania variants. The game I've settled on doesn't really do much better in terms of originality, its a tower defense, but I think it takes advantage of the star structure somewhat.

Anyway, I'll post a complete version shortly and leave the final judgment up to you.
