a very sad day...

as an undergrad at EVL I took care of several SGI's named after important people. One of them was named 'Paik'. He was one of my favorites, truly...

Folkloric myth has it that his recommendation for my advisor Dan Sandin was a big piece of paper that said 'Dan good artist'.

35 years ago already that endorsement by Nam Paik was good enough to have one be hired.

There won't be any Korean who doesn't know his name. Even the kids would remember their favorite of his works "Video Art Robots". I often saw some of his works placed in huge buildings in Korea. I don't know much of his works but whenever I met his works it was just amazing how unique and creative his work were. I remember how passionate he always was in excuting the performance he believed, how brave to overcome his paralysis out of stroke and keep creating on great works. It's truely sad day but in the other hand it's good to know that he passed away peacefully with his family around.
