Over the past semester, Robyn Gray and I have steadily been working on our Intermediate Game Development project, The Ballad of Tam Lin. We’ve been invited to show our game at a few shows including TEDxUSC and SCA’s own First Look festival. We’ve received comments that the game is surprisingly polished for a project completed in [...] -

During GDC I went to a talk by Ian Hardingham, technical lead and art director at Mode 7. He spoke about simultaneous, asynchronous, turn-based gaming and how choosing that design helped their game, Frozen Synapse . He brought up many interesting comparisons between real-time multiplayer and turn-based multiplayer paradigms and discussed the oft-overlooked benefits of asynchronous play. Turn-based games [...] -

Or: The Value of Play, Relatively Speaking The Game Design Challenge 2012: “Upgrade Humanity In 60 Seconds Flat”. I was expecting some wacky and fun ideas, and that’s exactly what we got. Jason Rohrer ripping up a $100 bill on camera for the sake of demonstrating his gam e was an interesting moment that won’t be forgotten for [...] -

Voting is really central to the game… if you want to draw the focus away from it, then we should remove it entirely and focus on construction. Not that I want to do that.
