Analysis
One of the first things that comes to mind when perusing the list is the sheer amount of data and information being carried, the value of communication, and the value of portability. The laptop holds information and can access more information or generate new information as well as allow a great deal of communication with others via communication networks. The 4GB flash drive holds its own information and makes data more portable and more easily transferred between computing devices. My Palm Treo contains a list of phone numbers as well as addresses, notes, and more. It can also allow me to access much of the same data in a more portable yet qualitatively inferior way to the laptop, but it's main function is to allow me to communicate with other people at any time and communicate information with them vocally. The phone also allows me to keep a schedule of meetings, events, and other things, which suggests that punctuality is appreciated in this society. Since meetings are apparently "planned for" and not done spontaneously this also suggests that my community has very diverse schedules and activities and that an individual's available time does not always align with that of others.
Not all information is digital and sometimes it is inconvenient to take or record information digitally via these devices, and so the notepads, pens, and pencils are carried as well. These devices and materials all suggest that rapid access to information and the ability to communicate with others is essential to how I interact with my environment and my peers. The ability to be reached or to reach another nearly instantaneously and to share information makes me a more valuable member of society because I am more productive and helpful in promoting it's ends as well as gaining information from it. These devices also suggest that time is a very limited resource and that there is a great deal of value in being able to reduce the amount of time it takes to generate, transmit, receive, and otherwise manipulate information. The additional led and the sheer amount of pens that are carried with the person implies that a situation where writing information down is rendered impossible by insufficient materials is a scenario that is important to avoid. Additionally to this, the newspapers provide information in a non-digital manner but one that is highly portable. This falls in line with the high value of data portability but also stresses that information about events one is not directly connected with are considered valuable, and that information from reliable sources is considered beneficial.
The wallet provides me with a container for various identification as well as means to easily trade money for goods and services. The presence of the cash as well as credit cards, debit cards, gift cards etc. suggests that the ability to be flexible in performing a transaction at any time is a valuable ability in my environment. The various membership cards suggest that my environment values loyalty or repetition in trade or purchasing habits, and being able to show membership allows me to be considered part of a group even without personally knowing every other member of the group. The business cards, on the other hand, are a non-digital but very fast method of transferring knowledge of another person and most importantly how to get in contact with them and add them to one's communications network at a more convenient time.
Clothing seems to indicate that covering one's body is required in this environment. Despite high temperatures the body must be covered to some degree. Considering this, the clothing seems a means of expressing some form of personality or feeling about things. The Zelda-themed clothing (as well as the wallet) suggests strong appreciation or identification with the Zelda brand (games), and the Capcom lanyard suggests identification with that company. The glasses imply that clear vision is a high-priority for the environment, and considering that the glasses are mass-produced it implies that many in the environment do not see things clearly without visual aids.
Other miscellaneous items include keys, which suggest that access to areas is important and that property is not necessarily secure, that theft or unwanted entry is an issue that people must face and counteract. It implies that possession of objects is valued within the society. The soda and water bottles, as well as the aspirin bottle and Bayer caplets, have a high degree of portability of the contents within. The fact stresses that the ability to react to issues that may interfere with productivity such as thirst or headaches/arm pain, etc. is important to deal with as soon as possible to avoid downtime and frequent travel to other stores/containers of the product.
