USC's Free Culture club is sponsoring a speed remix contest based on Night of the Living Dead. You have ONE WEEK to create a remix of George Romero's schlock horror classic for a chance to win a Neuros OSD open-source embedded media center. All remixes will be screened on October 29, with prizes awarded at the Visions and Voices Remixing the Archive event at the Annenberg Center on Nov. 5th. Blur+Sharpen presents: The Computational Sublime!

The recent proliferation of algorithmic and computational imaging has marked a radical redefinition of art-making, and along with it, a reconceptualization of contemporary technologies of vision, time, space and experience. This month's Blur+Sharpen brings together a provocative array of generative, algorithmic and mathematically derived videos, all of which suggest new directions for thinking about the creative possibilities for time-based, computational media.

A program of 'trick' films made at the turn of the last century, when cinema was new and everything about it was magical. Fantastical apparitions, impossible occurrences and startling transformations flitted across the screen in a new sleight of hand no one had ever seen before. Filmmakers will include Georges Meiles, Ferdinand Zecca, Louis Feuillade, Emil Cohl, Ladislas Starevitch, Edwin S. Porter, J. Stuart Blackton and D.W. Griffith. With live musical accompaniment by Severin Behnen!
