gacaca...
i recently discovered that there is in fact ONE film out there about Rwandan Gacaca trials - and the filmmaker turns out to be Anne Aghion!
i met Anne at Cannes in '98 when she was still working on her previous doc about Nicaragua.
"Gacaca: Living Together Again in Rwanda?" will be screening at this year's Human Rights Watch Film Fest in Lincoln Center, NYC (i love this gut wrenching festival) as well as in other festivals and on european TV. the film follows a traditional doc format and focuses on the pre-trial stages of Gacaca.
i haven't been blogging much, and not at all about my ideas for a Gacaca immersive film. i'm slowly educating myself on the issues and history involved, and racking my brain wondering if an interactive immersive doc could in fact be engaging. i want to develop it for the PS2 or Xbox platforms. i think it could be a powerful way to educate on conflict resolution - thus the interest in the form/content juxtaposition.
NYTimes just reviewed Anne's film:
